With medication.: The adrenal glands produce androgenic hormones that can be blocked with medication. Aminoglutethimide, ketoconazole, abiraterone & tak-700 (orteronel) are examples, blocking the synthesis of steroid compounds in the glands. Other essential hormones that are blocked may need to be replaced. Surgical removal of both glands would also eliminate adrenal androgens, but it is not done for this purpose.
