Can anybody other than a dentist perform a tooth extraction?

Dental Specialists: The only doctors trained to remove teeth are dentists, or dental specialists, such as oral surgeons and periodontists.

Not to my knowledge: Dentist, oral surgeons, and periodontists (all dentists) are best for having a tooth extracted. Don't fool around it is a very tecnique sensitive procedure, be in someone's hands that does this often.

In the US: In some states, a doctor with a medical license, md, can legally work in the oral cavity. A dental hygienist or dental assistant cannot legally remove a tooth. However, the only person trained to do so would be a licensed dentist. Also a dental student under supervision at an accredited dental school can legally remove a tooth.
