Bacteria causes Lyme: Borrelia burgdorferi is the bacteria that is the causative agent of lyme disease. It has the most complex genome of any bacteria known to man, which contributes to its ability to infect any organ and to mask itself from the immune system and develop resistance to antibiotics. It is most commonly transmitted by ticks but may be transmitted by other biting/stinging insects, sexually & congenitally.
