No: LD is spread by specific species of ticks if and only if they acquire the germ in their life cycle. In the US, Ixodes scapularis, the black legged tick is the main problem for northeast & upper north central US; the western blacklegged tick, Ixodes pacificus is the problem for the west coast.

No: The total population of ticks in any grassy, wodded area could be in the millions. Several published studies on tick populations have shown 25-30% of the ticks were carrying lyme in an endemic area (an area where lyme disease is present).
