The brain: It is a progressive, uniformly fatal disease that can be acquired or familial. It is rare, despite the media attention mad cow disease got in the recent past. It causes a rapidly progressive dementia and is caused by a microscopic "prion" protein product. There is no treatment. It is usually diagnosed by spinal tap, eeg and other neuro testing.
