Avoid Alcohol: If you are taking Metronidazole than avoid alcohol in all forms-- even one drink can cause severe vomiting while taking this medicine. In your case it may even be an alcohol based mouthwash that is doing this-- be very careful! also you may be intolerant of normal side effects of metronidazole. Definitely follow up with your doctor though.

Take with food: Oral Metronidazole is contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy. You may want to discuss this with your obstetrician. Nausea/vomiting and gastrointestinal upset are potential adverse effects of metronidazole. You can try taking the medication with food.

Let your doctor know: Let your doctor know you are having problems with this medication. This medication often causes nausea and vomiting. Try taking it with food especially crackers or bread. Do not drink any alcohol with this medication because will worsen nauseated feeling.
