Dementia Home: A patient with dementia requires assistance to live safely in the home. Helping them (the patient and or the family member who may live with them) understand the process and the issue of safey first is the most important thing. Assistance can be offered for specific tasks and or in increasing increments depending on the level of dementia that is noted. Assistance with a social worker is best.

Safety: The key is an honest assessment of functioning and abilities. Often the best assessments are made by an occupational therapist. Conversational abilities are preserved late into the illness. So just talking to the person is not a good way to tell how to help them.
