Valtrex (valacyclovir): Valtrex (valacyclovir) is probably the best anti-viral medication for herpes, as it is taken twice a day, as compared to other medications that need to be taken 3-5x per day. It will help to suppress the viral shedding and make it less likely that you will pass the virus to your sexual partner. You should still avoid contact while having an outbreak in any event.
