Does acupuncture help you with weight reduction?

Maybe, maybe not: If a person snacks or eats more when he is stressed out, then acupuncture might decrease stress and eating. If he is at the acupuncture clinic, then he is not at the grocery store, the bar, or the restaurant, so he is getting fewer calories. However, if he is getting acupuncture instead of jogging, biking, or swimming, then he is burning fewer calories . . . And might not lose weight in that case.

Yes: There is a specific auricular (ear) protocol utilizing semi-permanent needles which is excellent for appetite suppression. I have a number of patients who have used this to lose a large amount of weight. They have combined this with physical activity and healthy food choices. The protocol helps a person recognize when they are satiated and helps to curb cravings (especially for carbohydrates).
