Cold sore, cheilits: Cold sores are caused by viruses and can be seen on and around the lips and inside the mouth. Cheilitis is an inflammation of the lips and the vermilion. Cheilitis may cause discomfort and its specific cause often remains unknown. Many allergens may cause cheilitis, including cosmetics (particularly lipsticks), sunscreen agents, toothpastes, medications, foods, and dental material.
