A member asked:

How do you tell your ailing grandmother who might go any minute (due to heart conditions) that her son died?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A cruel choice: But honesty, delivered gently and with compassion would be my advice. Shielding people "for their own good" seems paternalistic and disrespectful to me. I would want to know where my son was and what happened.
