Possible: Most cases in the us have been in summer, in the southeast, since bodies of freshwater there more often reach at least 85 degrees f, the temperature at which naegleria likes to live. An unchlorinated, infested swimming pool might be another possible source. Cases have happened in lakes as far north as mn. Also in users of neti pots who don't use distilled, sterile water or boil the water first.

Agree w Dr. Pappas: However, from 1962 to 2016 there have been no cases of Primary Amebic Meningoencephalitis caused by Naegleria fowleri in Pennsylvania. This is exceedingly rare.
