When both damaged: If both lungs are damaged as in cases of infections, cystic fibrous, pulmonary hypertension, etc. Then the results are better when both lungs (from the same donor) are replaced. About 2/3 of lung tx are bilateral. However, this diminishes the total number of recipients transplanted, and has to be carefully allocated.
