Redirect not punish: We want to teach our children not punish- which connotes we want them to suffer. Positive discipline for preschoolers by jane nelsen is a great resource as is secrets of the third pig by charlene messenger. Your pediatrician may also have some specific ideas for specific situations as well.

Use time-out: Time-out is a safe, effective way to ignore behaviors, which makes them go away.1-2-3 magic & " little people" teach you how to do "walk, don't talk" time-out effectively. Behaviors get worse before they go away, as a test to see if he can get you to engage. Crying does no psychological harm. Praise him often for behaviors you want. Scolding/arguing reinforce behaviors & can hurt his feelings.
