Can a lumbar puncture cause detrusor damage (underactive) to the bladder? person in question has no history of bladder problems just came out of hospital with bladder problem, catheterized for life!

If done properly NO: A lumbar puncture done correctly has the needle inserted into the subarachnoid space below the level at which the spinal cord ends, and there should be no neurological damage. The question is why was the LP done and did you have a condition which produced nerve damage. What does your doctor say?

Unlikely butpossible: Although the risks of a lumbar puncture are very small they exist nevertheless. This includes possible permanent nerve injury including the rare potential for paralysis particularly in individuals with undetected coagulopathy.
