DMPA (Depo-Provera): Depot Medroxyprogesterone acetate (dmpa) is an injectable birth control which is very effective. Short term side effects are water retention, hair loss, & irregular bleeding. Long term effects are still irregular bleeding, weight gain, & depression. Very long term, vaginal dryness from low estrogen effect & osteoporosis. However, many women do well & have no periods with 4 shots per year. Try it.
