Treat the anxiety.: I would see your dr. And see about getting the anxiety treated as that would be the best solution of all. It's difficult to keep from picking at the area if you feel anxious inside. There are good treatments for this so see your family doctor.

Stay active: Exercise is a great way to relieve stress. Your body releases endorphins during exercise, which can help you feel calm. If you exercise 30 - 60 minutes a day, your stress levels can improve. When stressed, take 5 slow, deep breaths with your eyes closed, then roll your shoulders forward 5 times, then back 5 times. This will slow your heart rate and release tension in your neck and shoulders.

Find BFRB Expert!: Chronic skin picking - "dermatillomania"- is referred to as body-focused repetitive behavior (bfrb). It can arise in response to (a) emotions -anxiety, fear, boredom, excitement; &/or (b) detecting some irregularity/imperfection on the skin/scalp. Bfrbs can produce pleasurable sensations & can relieve tension. Bfrbs can be associated w/other disorders- physical &/or psychological.
