What does it feel like to be put under anastesia for the first time?

A lot like sleeping: General anesthesia is a drug-induced loss of consciousness. While it is not restorative like typical sleep, the experience is similar to falling asleep in that you will lose awareness and memory of what happened while you were "asleep". It is similar to falling asleep while watching a movie. When you wake up, you know that things happened while you were asleep, but you didn't experience them.

Relaxing, I hope!: It will almost certainly provoke some anxiety, not knowing what to expect. But, all anesthesia care providers try to be sure that first-time patients feel relaxed, comfortable, pain-free and trusting in the experience going forward.

Very Few Know: With modern anesthetics we try and shut down the memory of the patient before they go to the or. Once they can't remember what happened, it is very hard to find out what they felt as they went to sleep. Without sedatives the very medication that is used to put people to sleep blocks memory formation, so we have the same problem. Same with waking up. Patients come to in the pacu after the op.
