Usually can't; depen (penicillamine): Other than for a very isolated area of the nail, homemade remedies usually don't work as it takes at least six months for the nail to grow without exposure to nail fungus to stay clean. Even when treated with medication, the fungus often returns. New laser treatments can offer some cosmetic improvement, but usually don't completely eradicate the fungus.

Vicks: Vapor rub is a home ready often touted. I think it all depends on how bad the fungus is. If the toenails are very thick, i think most topical treatments will fail. Those nails need to be reduced as much as possible so the medications can get under the toenail.

They generally don't: Treatment is usually a multifaceted approach. Minor involvement may respond to topical medications. Involved cases require oral medication or laser treatments. However you treat a nail fungus, you need to provide long term maintanence therapy. Be sure to discuss this with your podiatrist as part of your treatment.
