A member asked:

When a schizophrenic is medicated can he function as well as a normal person?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: For the most part, a person with schizophrenia may greatly improve his or her level of functioning with medications. One major problem is that often, people stop the medication because they think they no longer need it. The person, over time, maybe after a few months, often relapses and become psychotic again while off of the medication. There are some medications which last up to one month.
