Signal/response.: Adh, or vasopressin, is a hormone released by the posterior pituitary gland when the body wishes to conserve water. Aquaporin 2 (aqp2) channels in the kidney are activated by adh, which reabsorb water back into the bloodstream, concentrating and decreasing the volume of urine. Mutations in aqp2 can lead to diabetes insipidus, where large volumes of urine are released.
