A colon study.: A bowel prep is required. Barium sulphate and water are introduced via a canula. In a straight be (barium enema) x-rays are taken in multiple positions then the barium is drained and more films are taken. Usually better viewing is possible when the barium is drained and air is introduced. Films are taken before and after drainage. The air contrast be usually provides better detail.
