Floppy iris syndrome: Extended use of Flomax (tamsulosin) can cause atrophy of the iris muscles resulting in improper dilation of the pupil during cataract surgery. This situation can be addressed if the surgeon knows about the Flomax (tamsulosin) use beforehand. Stopping the Flomax (tamsulosin) prior to the surgery makes little difference if it has been used for a while.

"floppy iris": Flowmax affects the smooth muscle of the iris which may affect how well the eye dilates for cataract surgery. It is also know to cause "floppy iris syndrome", which can make the cataract surgery more difficult due to the iris prolapsing (popping out) through the wound during surgery or into the cataract removal instrument causing damage to your iris.

Floppy iris: Climax can cause floppy iris which can make the dilation decrease during surgery and make the surgery more difficult. If this occurs, special instruments to hold the iris open during surgery may be needed.
