Infection can spread: If a documented UTI with a positive culture is left untreated than following complication can occur 1 the infection can travel upwards to ureter and kidneys to cause pyelonephritis 2 the infection can spread in the blood stream and cause urosepsis which may require hospitalisation 3 pregnant women with UTI if not treated can risk early labour and premature birth.

Some will go away: But sometimes they can progress to serious kidney or blood infections. Also, sometimes the symptoms are due to a sexually transmitted infection or other problem. If you think you have a UTI see a health care provider.
