It will tend to not be helpful for the specific mood-related problems seen in bipolar disorder. Also, there can be concerns with long-term Haldol (haloperidol) use that require regular monitoring.

Agree w Dr. Holmes: Haldol (haloperidol) can be used to treat mania and psychosis. That doesn't mean it will perform well for depression. Most physicians prescribe atypical neuroleptics now - in place of older neuroleptics. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/748124
