How does a person get treated for ocd?

Dr. Pamela Pappas answered

Specializes in Psychiatry

Multiple ways: A person can see a psychiatrist for an evaluation, where the whole history is explored and treatment plan developed. This may include medications, with various adjustments of these. Very important also is psychotherapy, which includes ways of dealing with obsessions, compulsions, and anxiety in general. The combination of both approaches can help manage this problem.

Meds and CBT: A combined approach using behavioral therapy and medication has been shown to be most effective. Start with your pcp or consult a experienced mental health professional. The oc foundation website is a great place to start.
