Ovarian torsion: Ovarian torsion refers to the twisting of the ovary on its ligamentous supports, often resulting in impedance of ovarian blood supply. Common symptoms are nausea and vomiting, stabbing pain, sudden and sharp pain in the lower abdomen, pain radiating to the back, flank or groin; peritoneal signs, and fever. Definitive diagnosis is based on surgical findings.
