Many things.: Not ovulating during every cycle can cause irregular periods. This is is common in teens as their systems mature, but may also occur in adults. Excessive exercise, stress & eating disorders can also throw periods off, as well as polycystic ovarian syndrome, ovarian or adrenal tumors, thyroid dysfunction, or too much prolactin. Spotting between periods is commonly caused by infection.

Start with NSAIDS: Cramps prior to starting your period are quite common. There are many treatment options available from simply taking over the counter acetomenophen, Naproxen or Ibuprofen to treatment prescribed by your physician. Also using a heating pad may help .If the over the counter pain medications do not help, i would recomend scheduling an appointment with your physician to try other options.
