Not common: Some antidepressants have been linked to nonspecific renal failure, but they have not been established as the only causative factor. More often, the challenge is the other way 'round: needing to treat patients who have renal failure, for depression. In those cases, we often have to decrease the dose of antidepressant. Lithium, mainly a mood stabilizer, can affect kidney function.
