Why would my son's ear doctor say today to make a vinegar and alcohol solution and said use 1/3 of each?

Treatment for ear: The alcohol displaces any water in the ear to prevent infection; the vinegar (acetic acid) restores the normal acid balance in the ear canal. Use caution if the eardrum (tympanic membrane) may be broken (perforated); see fp or ENT in such cases.

Dries up fluid : That combo is good to use after there has been fluid in the ear like with bathing or swimming. The alcohol evaporates and helps dry the canal and vinegar has some natural antibiotic effect. There are otc products but this combo is very effective. It takes a little time but worth it. If there is concern for ruptured ear drum do not use any drops without exam by medical provider.
