Can you still be an organ donor if you have lupus?
2 doctor answers • 4 doctors weighed in

Dr. Angus Worthing answered
Internal Medicine 18 years experience
Yes: A person with lupus, could donate any organ which is healthy enough to survive the transplant, and which that person could live without. Since lupus can affect many organs, this would have to be a very careful decision for the person, their doctor, and the transplant doctor. But it's possible.

Almost everything: Nearly everything can be safely donated without compromising an "open casket" funeral. This should be discussed between the organ procurement counselors and the family before proceeding with donation.
