A member asked:

Can inserting ear plugs inside the ear too far, actually damage the eardrum?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: It seems odd to me that folks do this, but the ear drum is quite sensitive and could be damaged by just about anything inserted too far into the ear canal. Fortunately the ear canal skin is very thin and sensitive and "most" people are going to stop pushing ear plugs in due to discomfort. Any persistant ear pain can be readily evaluated by a physician looking in your ears and should be done.
