A member asked:

Why is it difficult to breathe in crowds?

Maybe claustrophobia: There may not be anything about being around a lot of people per se that harms the way the lungs function, but many people do not feel comfortable being in crowds due to claustrophobia. This, in turn, could be experienced as shortness of breath.
