No specific age: Delayed growth implies either the child is below his expected height for age or if he or she has delayed sexual development justifying why the growth parameters are not where they should be. If the growth velocity is impaired regardless of age, a referral to a pediatric endocrinologist will help.

Delayed growth: This can occur at any age. Delayed growth implies a normal growth rate but delayed bone maturity. An x-ray of the hand called a "bone age" can tell if the growth plates look immature compared to chronological age. If your child is crossing height percentiles on a growth curve it is "growth failure" and not"delay".
