1- 10 days or more: Take it easy a simple extraction can give you little to no discomfort. One more involved can cause significant swelling which may not even begin to swell for 2 days. So, just because it has been 5 days and it still hurts, doesn't mean that you have an infection or dry socket. A quick phone call to the office will give you some insight on what is normal for you given your specific situation.

Varies: The pain from an extraction depends on the difficulty of the extraction. An impacted wisdom tooth could have lingering pain for a week. A simple extraction which a little trauma to the surrounding bone only one to two days, the pain subside each day following an extraction if it increases you should notify your dentist. This could be a sign of a dry socket or bone infection which must be treated.

A few days: The discomfort after a typical tooth extraction will last from a few hours to a few days. A surgical extraction with the removal of bone may be sore for a couple of weeks if healing is uneventful.

It can vary... : It depends on the type of extraction. Some are simple and some are quite complex. Also pain can vary from patient to patient and i believe that people feel pain differently. It does not say anything about a person. We usually suggest aleve, motrin, tylenol (acetaminophen) or arnica to help with pain and swelling after surgery. Stronger medicine is available, please consult directly with your dentist.

Depends: Discomfort after a tooth extraction can last up to a week, depending on the severity of the situation and the difficulty of the extraction. Otc meds can help, as well as prescription narcotics, to help with symptoms.
