Abnormal heart beat: The rate of heart beat originates from the pacemaker in the sinus. If it is irregular then the rate of the ventricles is irregular. If it is slow then the ventricles beat slow. A sinus ayythmia may mean a slow heart rate in a fit athletic individual.

Normal variation: The "sinus arrhythmia" is the normal variation in heart rate that occurs from the heart's normal pacemaker (the sino-atrial node or pacemaker). For example, the heart rate speeds up and slows down as you take a deep breath in and then breathe out. In healthy hearts, there is a slight random variation in the heart rate from beat to beat (the period of each beat will vary around the average value).
