OTC: A healthy adult can take 800mg of Ibuprofen (4 advil) every 8 hours in combination with extrastrength tylenol (acetaminophen) (500mg) every 6 hours. Topical "ora gel" or other numbing agents are available. Add warm salty water rinses. Then, call in sick, and go see your dentist.

Motrin and Tylenol (acetaminophen): Combining Ibuprofen (motrin) and Acetaminophen (tylenol) works well for otc pain relief. They each work on different pain receptor sites making them synergistic. Pay particular attention to the maximum doses for each medication.

Very little: Ibuprofen will probably do the most good, but having the toothache cause addressed by a dentist will provide the most relief.

Advil or Aleve (naproxen): Advil or Aleve (naproxen) are effective in reducing the pain, tenderness, and swelling experienced by people with tooth aches. Please see your dentist as soon as you can for treatment!
