It can be.: Trileptal can function well as a mood stabilizer for many individuals with bipolar disorder. If the mood stabilizer alone does not control the condition and residual depression remains some doctors will add in an antidepressant such as effexor (venlafaxine). The real answer is in the experience. If your moods are stable and your side effects minimal, then the answer is yes!
