Hard to breathe: The lungs inhale air to get oxygen and exhale to get rid of carbon dioxide (co2). When the lungs fail, co2 builds up in your blood stream which causes the ph of the blood to go down (lower ph means more acid), that is what we call respiratory acidosis.
