A member asked:

How come some gun-shot victims have the bullets left in them forever?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Risk benefit: The risk of going after the bullet has to weighed against any benefit. Usually, the bullet has no long term effects nor risk for infection. The risk of harm to retrieve the bullet is therefore unacceptable. In some specific circumstances the bullet must be removed. Rarely, the bullet will drag some clothing or other debris and cause an infection.
