Will an epidural numb all labor pains?

Not usually: Epidural pain relief for labor is intentionally kept on the lighter side, so that ideally the mother can move easily and sometimes even walk around. Lighter pain relief also enables her to push effectively when the time comes. If a c-section is needed, then the epidural is dosed at a higher level to provide complete relief of pain. Talk to the anesthesiologist for more information.

It should!: The goal of epidural in labor is to take away all the painful stimuli, while allowing some movement of the lower extremities and the feeling of touch undisturbed.
