What is the reproduction mechanism of scabies?

Mating: Females create short burrows in the skin called molting pouches. She lays eggs in these pouches which eventually hatch releasing larvae. The larvae develop into nymphs, which eventually mature into adult mites. Mating occurs when a male penetrates the molting pouch of a female.

Scabies: There isn't an exact reproduction rate for scabies. However, the mites cannot survive off the human body for more than 48 hours and cannot reproduce off the body. Mites that are from an animal will not last as long, since they cannot reproduce on the human body. There are male and female scabies. The females burrow into the skin while the males live on top of the skin.
