Unequivocally YES: The dentist must need to know every medical condition you have. Pregnancy is a serious one. In my office we try not to work on any woman who is in her 1st trimester unless it is an emergency. Also special care would be taken to double shield your baby if dental x-rays are taken.

Yes: Always consult with your ob/gyn. Teeth cleanings are important to avoid pregnancy gingivitis. Emergency treatment is always preferable to letting an infection hurt you and potentially the baby. Most other care is considered quite safe in the second trimester. You and your baby's safety are the main issue . There are materials that may be used in a dental appointment that may not be advisable.

YOU MUST: The question should be not do I have to, but should i? And the answer is an absolutely and unequivacally yes! it is absolutely necessary for the safety of you and your child. Most dental procedures can be done safely when a woman is pregnant, but it is always a good idea for both you and your dentist to confer with your obstetrician for any specific precautions that need to be observed.
