Stool studies: You may have contracted a bowel infection. The 3 main causes are c. Difficile toxin, ova & parasites, and bacterial colitis (yersinia, campylobacter, shigella). If you have cramping abdominal pain, perhaps even with bloody diarrhea; there is more of a reason to see your fp and submit a stool specimen for analysis. This will most quickly give you the answer and then the treatment.

OBVIOUSLY not: You have ibs. When food goes into the stomach it automatically notifies the computer in the lower brain. When this is normal it may well make a bathroom visit essential. When this becomes over sensitive it instructs the intestine to undergo peristalsis (wave like contractions) that can become violent. Commonest cause of ibs is lousy diet, particularly sugar and sweeteners.

Diarrhea...: ...Is probably the least of your concerns with high soda intake. "metabolic syndrome" is far more of a problem: http://www.Mayoclinic.Com/health/metabolic%20syndrome/ds00522 mainly due to high-fructose corn syrup. Your diarrhea likely has a different origin.
