If i have a mole removed that was malignant, do i still have to be treated with radiation therapy?

Dr. David Sax answered

Most likely no.: A mole that is malignant would be melanoma, a form of skin cancer. The treatment of choice would be to remove surgically with wide margins. Depending on the depth of the malignancy, additional tests can be done including lymph node testing, to determine the stage of melanoma. Some patients may benefit from additional treatment with chemotherapy called interferon.

Generally, no: If your margins were clear and there were no involved metastatic lymph nodes, then we would not recommend any radiation therapy.
