Pain and x-ray: Pain dose not go away in few days, then x-ray will confrim the fracture.

X-ray is definitive: Although a thorough orthopaedic evaluation will pickup the vast majority of fractures, subtle stress fractures or "hairline fractures" will be definitively diagnosed with the addition of an x-ray and/or mri.
