Are omega-3 fatty acids just as effective as any antidepressant?

Not so far: There hasn't yet been a study directly comparing omega 3 fatty acids to antidepressant treatment -- so we can't conclude the 2 are equivalent or that efa's are better. However, there are some meta-analyses suggesting that omega 3's --especially when epa is 1-2 g/day over dha -- are effective. Efa's have not been used alone in these studies, tho'. Dha alone was not protective; epa was more so.
