Defect of sperm...: Formation. During a workup for male infertility, the sperm are examined microscopically for any malformations. Recently, higher magnifications have been used and have identified sperm vacuoles, which are bubble like inclusions in the sperm head that are associated with lower rates of egg fertilization. The exact cause is unknown, but a problem with packaging of the dna seems to be the cause.
