Shop around: The most important aspect in purchazing a light therapy lamp for sad is to make sure that it emits 10, 000 lux wavelength light band. There are some companies pricing these for a couple hundred or more on the internet. A year or two ago i did stumble upon one at lowes or menards that was around $30 and specifically had the waveband listed.

With properly filtered wavelength, and used in conjunction with a medication, this can also be used medically to treat precancerous and selected skin cancers. Ipl is not for everyone. See your dermatologist for evaluation.

Varies: In stable plaque psoriasis phototherapy can flatten psoriasis and put into remission for about 9 months. It will require a series of 20-30 treatments. Home narrow band uvb devices are available for home use and can be covered by insurance but will require documentation by a dermatologist.

Poor: Light therapy is not a good treatment for insomnia. It is typically used in circacadian rhythm disturbances (ie delayed or advanced phase sleep syndrome) but not in insomnia. Please do not try using light therapy without the supervision of a sleep physician because you can greatly affect/harm your sleep/wake cycle.

Dr. Matheson Harris

Know the numbers: Contact lenses have 3-5 numbers that define their prescription. The spherical power, which is the first number beginning with a + or - sign. If you wear toric lenses for astigmatism, the next 2 numbers will be one starting with a - sign for the power and then a number between 0 and 180 for the axis. Finally, there will be a base curve (bc) around 8.0-9.0 and a diameter number (13-14).
