BCG VACCINE: The advantage of giving BCG vaccine is to protect you from TB infection. I don't think they are giving it now. The disadvantage is it gives a false positive response to the PPD skin test.

BCG vaccine: Bcg vaccine, prepared from a weakened strain of tuberculosis bacteria named bacille calmette-guérin, is used in developing countries where the incidence and prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) is far higher than in the United States. All newborns in those countries receive BCG which is highly effective in prevention of severe TB and tuberculous meningitis. Main disadvantage: interferes reading of ppd.

BCG VACCINE: Bcg vaccine is still being given to new born babies in several countries .It is effective in protecting againt TB meningitis in children but its effectiveness against pulmonary tuberculosis is variable usa and holland have never used it routinely, due to surveilance with monyoux test disadvantages except making difficult to interpret motoux test in us, and not very effective for pulmonary tuberculo.
